Fleet Management
Your fleet is your operation. Klau tracks every driver, truck, and container so you always know who is available, what is deployed, and where your assets are.
How It Works: Drivers, Trucks, and Assets
Klau connects the three core pieces of your fleet into a single, always-current view of your operation. Here is how the pieces fit together:
Drivers are your crew. Each driver has a name, phone, email, and type (Full-Time or Flex). Drivers are assigned to trucks and receive job notifications via SMS.
Trucks are your vehicles. Each truck has a number, license plate, VIN, and compatible container sizes. Trucks are assigned to drivers for dispatch.
Assets are your containers and equipment. Serial-tracked roll-off containers, portable toilets, front-load bins, and compactors. Know where every piece of iron is.
Everything Connected means drivers are assigned to trucks, trucks carry containers, and containers are deployed to customer sites. Klau tracks the full chain.
Managing Drivers
Navigate to Drivers in the sidebar to see your full driver roster. The driver list shows each driver's name, phone, email, assigned truck, driver type, and status.
Searching and Filtering
- Search by name, phone, email, or truck number to find any driver instantly.
- Filter by type: All, Full-Time, or Flex. Use this to see only the drivers relevant to today's dispatch.
Adding a Driver
- Click the Add Driver button.
- Enter the driver's name, phone number, and email address.
- Select the driver type: Full-Time or Flex.
- Click Save. The driver is immediately available for dispatch assignment.
Editing a Driver
Click the edit icon on any driver row to update their information, reassign their truck, or assign them to a yard.
Importing Drivers
Click Import CSV to bulk import drivers from a spreadsheet. Klau Command maps your columns automatically and detects duplicates before importing.
Full-Time vs Flex Drivers
Full-Time drivers appear on your dispatch board every day. Flex drivers only appear when you add them to a specific day. Use Flex for part-time or on-call drivers.
Managing Trucks
Navigate to Trucks in the sidebar. The truck list shows each truck's number, license plate, VIN, assigned driver, compatible container sizes, and status.
Searching
Search by truck number, license plate, VIN, or driver name to find any vehicle in your fleet.
Adding a Truck
- Click the Add Truck button.
- Enter the truck number, license plate, and VIN.
- Select compatible container sizes (10, 15, 20, 30, 40 yard). The optimizer uses this to assign the right truck to the right job.
- Click Save. The truck is ready for driver assignment and dispatch.
Editing a Truck
Click the edit icon on any truck row to update metadata, change compatible sizes, or assign and unassign a driver.

Managing Assets
Navigate to Assets in the sidebar. The asset list shows each asset's serial number, type, status, location, container size, and condition.
Filtering Assets
By Type
Roll-Off, Portable Toilet, Front Load Bin, Compactor, Other
By Status
Available, Deployed, In Transit, Maintenance
Status Workflow
Every asset moves through a clear lifecycle. Understanding these statuses helps you know exactly where your equipment is at any moment.
In the yard, ready for dispatch.
At a customer site, on a job.
Being moved between locations.
Out of service for repairs.
Adding an Asset
- Click the Add Asset button.
- Enter the serial number.
- Select the asset type (Roll-Off, Portable Toilet, Front Load Bin, Compactor, Other).
- Choose the container size if applicable.
- Assign to a yard and set the condition.
- Click Save. The asset enters your inventory as Available.
Maintenance Workflow
Mark an asset for Maintenance when it needs repairs. Once work is complete, use Return from Maintenance (one click) to put it back in service. The asset returns to Available status and is immediately eligible for dispatch.
Retiring an Asset
Retiring an asset is a soft-delete. The asset record is preserved for reporting history but removed from active inventory. Retired assets do not appear in dispatch or availability views.
Serial Number Best Practice
Use serial numbers that your drivers can easily read on the container. When drivers reference containers by serial number, Klau can track exactly which container is at which customer site.
Drivers and SMS
When you add a driver with a phone number, Klau can send them job notifications via SMS. This keeps your drivers informed without requiring them to check an app or call in for their schedule.
SMS Notifications Include
- Job assignment alerts with customer name, address, and container size.
- "Next Up" notifications when they are about to start a new job.
- Portal link for navigation, status updates, and photo evidence capture.
Language Selection
Drivers choose English or Spanish during onboarding. All SMS notifications are sent in their preferred language.

Import vs Manual Entry
Two paths for getting fleet data into Klau. Choose the one that fits your situation, or use both for different parts of your setup.
Manual Entry
Add one at a time through the Add buttons on each page. Best for small fleets or individual additions when a new driver joins or a new truck arrives.
CSV Import
Bulk import via Klau Command. Best for initial setup or large fleet changes. Upload a spreadsheet and Klau maps your columns automatically.
Klau Command: AI-Powered Import
Klau Command is an AI-powered import tool that maps columns, detects duplicates, and handles cross-references between entity types. It supports drivers, trucks, assets, and six other entity types.
